Itinerary

Day 1 – Sun Jun 21 - USA /ATHENS: Overnight flight to Athens, Greece.  Airfare not included.

Day 2 – Mon Jun 22 - ATHENS: Tour begins: Upon arrival at the Athens International Airport, you will be transferred directly to your Athens Hotel. Rest of day at leisure. Stroll through the old city of Athens, Plaka with its many souvenir shops, cafes and tavernas. Overnight accommodation in Athens. (D) Royal Olympic 5*    

Day 3, Tues Jun 23 – ATHENS / DELPHI / KALAMBAKA: After breakfast depart on your 4 day tour of Classical Greece and Meteora. Our first stop is Delphi. Visits include the Doric Temple and the Sanctuary of Apollo, the Treasuries, the 5th-century bronzed Charioteer and the intriguing Archaeological Museum filled with ancient artifacts. Afternoon we continue north passing the towns of Lamia, Karditsa, Trikala and finally Kalambaka. Dinner and overnight. (B, D)

Day 4, Wed Jun 24 - KALAMBAKA / METEORA: After breakfast mid-morning we visit the breathtaking monasteries of Meteora atop 1000-1200 ft. cliffs. You will visit two ageless monasteries containing priceless historical and religious treasures standing suspended between earth and sky. Rest of the day at your leisure. (B, D)    

Day 5, Thurs Jun 25 - KALAMBAKA / Kamena Vourla / LOUTRAKI: Today we drive south to Thermopylae – site of the famous Greek-Persian battle that King Leonidas and 300 Spartans heroically held the Persians. Few minutes for photos, continue to Kamena Vourla, a seaside resort area. Relax at one of the many cafes by the sea for a leisurely coffee break or light lunch. Continue to Nauplion or Loutraki with early evening arrival. (B, D)     

Day 6, Fri Jun 26 - LOUTRAKI or NAUPLION / Mycenae / Nauplion / Epidaurus: After breakfast we continue to Argolis and Mycenae, land of Homer’s Golden Mycenae, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Dating back to the second century B.C., Mycenae was one of the major centers of Greek civilization and a military stronghold which dominated much of southern Greece. Visit the archaeological site, home to the kingdom of mythical Agamemnon. You will see the Cyclopean Walls, the Lion’s Gate, the Royal Tombs, including Agamemnon Clytemnestra's, and the Treasury of Atreus, a magnificent 14th-century B.C. structure. Time will then be taken for a traditional Greek optional lunch at a nearby restaurant in Nauplion. Early afternoon we will make a brief stop at Corinth Canal for photos then continue to Athens for our flight to Mytilene. Late evening arrival in Mytilene. (B)   Aegean Air - Depart Athens 9:15pm – Arrive Mytilene 10:05pm 

Day 7 & 8 Sat & Sun Jun 27 & 28 - MYTILENE: Take in the Mytilene Fortress, a huge, 6th century fortress overlooking the town and harbour of the capital town of Lesvos. Other sights include the Old Monastery of Taxiarchae, It is the Monastery of "The Commander" Archangel Michael, who is known in Lesvos as Taxiarchae, (the Archangel) and the Patron Saint of the island. It’s the most holy place on the island. It’s the most holy place on the island.  If you are interested in holy places of Christianity you must visit this place, which is still called a monastery, although there are no monks today. It used to be a big monastery for many years with many monks. The icon of Archangel Michael (Taxiarchae), just after the entrance, is very impressive and has its own recent history. It’s a little strange though having a war plane mounted in the garden of a Monastery, but because it’s the patron of the Greek pilots and many icons of aircraft and pilots are hanging in the Monastery. Day 9, Mon Jun 29 - MYTILENE / Athens/ SANTORINI: Depart Mytilene via Athens to Santorini. Transfer to your hotel for the next 3 nights. Rest of day at your leisure. (B)  Aegean Air – Depart Mytilene 12:05pm – Arrive Athens 1pm – depart 3:10pm – Arrive Santorini 3:55pm  

Day 10 & 11, Tues & Wed Jun 30 & Jul 1 - SANTORINI: Walk along the narrow streets of the town of Thira or visit the village of Oia for panoramic views of breathtaking beauty, sightseeing & shopping. Enjoy one of the many beaches such as Kamari Beach with its black sand or sit by a café on the caldera cliffs (B)  

Day 12, Thurs Jul 2 - SANTORINI via Athens / USA: Depart at 8:35am arrival in Athens at 9:20am with your international departure at 11:35am for your return home. (B) Depart Santorini 8:35am – Arrive Athens 9:20am Continue on your flight to Boston
